Opening Prayer:
**Opening Hymn: Come, Thou Almighty King 267
** Invocation: I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. For your steadfast love is as high as the heavens; your faithfulness extends to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens. Let your glory be over all the earth.
**Call to Worship: Isaiah 40:1-9
M: “Comfort, yes, comfort My people!” Says your God.
C: “Speak comfort to Jerusalem, and cry out to her, that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned;
M: for she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.”
C The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the Lord; Make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
M: Every valley shall be exalted and every mountain and hill brought low; the crooked places shall be made straight and the rough places smooth;
C: The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
M: The voice said, “Cry out!”
C: And he said, “What shall I cry?”
M: “All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades, because the breath of the Lord blows upon it; surely the people are grass.
C: The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”
M: O Zion, You who bring good tidings, Get up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, You who bring good tidings,
C: Lift up your voice with strength, lift it up, be not afraid; Say to the cities of Judah, “Behold your God!”
Reading of the Law: Exodus 20:1-17
**Prayer of Confession: Almighty and most merciful Father; We have erred, and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou them, O God, which confess their faults. Restore thou them that are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous and sober life. To the Glory of thy holy Name. Amen.
